Teleconsultation refers to a kind of service that medical institutions perform remote diagnosing by making use of advanced multimedia methods. In the entire teleconsulting process, it is of vital importance for experts and patients to interact in real time.In this paper, a peer-to-peer multi-media communication module for teleconsultation has been designed and implemented, which combined with the patient information management center, file transfer system and medical imaging workstation to form a comprehensive remote expert consultation system.Through extensive and deep-going research on the multi-media technology and peer-to-peer communication technology, the paper puts forward a method for implementing this module. In order to achieve peer-to-peer communication, the paper presents a simple NAT traversal algorithm based on abstraction and classification of the network topology, and then simulates and verifies the algorithm. At last, the algorithm is applied to the module, combined with the relevant multi-media communication technology to achieve a cost-effective, highly adaptable, full-featured and high performance peer-to-peer multi-media communication system.
