Short-wave broadband antenna is an important part of shortwave self-adaptive frequency -hopping communication system. With the rapid development of portable radio, small short-wave broadband antenna has become a hot topic.Based on the characteristics of short-wave hopping radio, we analyzed the antennas which can be applied to short-wave frequency hopping communication. A broadband loaded normal mode helical antenna has been designed. The antenna tuner system design process is a focus in this paper.In order to get a non-tuned the shortwave portable antenna, we designed and optimized a broadband loaded normal mode helical antenna with a broadband matching network. Through simulation, we analyzed the input impedance of this loaded antenna. Then, we get the current distribution of the spiral line and the antenna radiation efficiency. The result proved the overall efficiency of loaded antennas is very low, so we need to further enhance its application performance.For the short-wave antenna tuner, this paper proposes a new method of detection of the antenna impedance based on adding auxiliary networks. Factors that affect the accuracy of the method and the improved scheme have been analyzed. Through comprehensive analysis, we have designed the matching network of the antenna tuner and tuning method, the simulation get the factors that affect the tuning accuracy and the methods can reduce the tuning errors have been proposed. Finally, we configure the DSP-related registers and corresponding external circuit.
