Traditional security techniques cannot be applied directly to the mobile P2P networks due to the limitations of the wireless medium, expensive bandwidth, and the limitations of the mobile devices due to small memory and limited computation power. Therefore, computation-intensive techniques like public-key cryptography are not expected to be used in mobile P2P networks. Such a distinction is also beyond the ability of the conventional key management scheme because we cannot guarantee the secrecy of each peer's private key. In addition, mobile devices are susceptible to a variety of attacks for example, eavesdropping, denial of services, wormhole, and Sybil attack. Even a few malicious peers can easily spread deceitful data and make the networks be in confusion without great efforts. Therefore, some smart trust management schemes are needed to identify trustworthiness of mobile peers in order to distinguish between malicious peers and innocuous peers, and to strengthen reliable peers and weaken suspicious peers. By analyzing the requirements of trust management in mobile P2P applications and some limitations of existing work, this dissertation presents an integrated trust management solution, which includes two parts:trust model and decision-making model. The major contribution of this thesis includes:1) A distributed trust model is presented and gives a distributed implementation method for mobile P2P networks. In the proposed model peers with similar mobility are clustered into a set of groups, where there are two different kinds of peers:Mobile and Power peers. Mathematic analyses and simulations show that the adoption of group avoids the communication overload in global trust computation, and the benefits of trust evaluation are maintained by managing trust in the groups. Compared to the current P2P trust models, the proposed model is slightly affected by the dynamic joining and departing of peers. Additionally, it effectively encourages new peers to take part in the systems actively and friendly.2) This paper will make a qualitative analysis on the proposed distributed trusted model, many simulation experiments will be made to prove the improvement of the proposed model. On the other hand, this paper will find crucial factors which affect the performance of the distributed trust model.
