Nowadays, with the rapid development of information technology, enhancing the sensory experience of the human visual with more comprehensive, more complex and diverse synthetic view information has become one of the most attractive and most popular challenges. With the continuous development of computer technology, a number of technologies have derived from synthetic display, such as image mosaic, 3D reconstruction, augmented reality, and so on. These technologies, which have been widely used in specific areas, have broad prospects for development. This paper especially focus on image mosaic, 3D reconstruction, augmented reality and their corresponding problems in image registration. For image mosaic, the feature-based image registration method is mainly researched. Then, on considering the image sequencing problem and the limitations of image that can be handled in existing methods for image mosaic, a sequence image automatic mosaic method based on phase correlation and improved SURF algorithm is proposed. Experimental results indicate that the proposed algorithm not only exceeds existing ones at speed but can also automatically get panoramic result with good visual consistency. It is proved to be feasible and effective. For 3D reconstruction, theoretical and methodological on camera calibration and epipolar rectification, stereo matching, 3D space point reconstruction are respectively discussed and studied. Comprehensive simulation experiments are done in accordance with each main step of 3D reconstruction, mainly showing the good reconstruction result achieved by using graph cuts stereo matching method. For augmented reality, the principles as well as the general procedures of the marker-based registration method and the feature-based registration method under monocular camera are studied and summarized. By using ARToolKit, a marker-based AR system is designed. The system operates well in real time and it does play a role to enhance the reality. Video synthetic display technology, including video overlap, characters overlap and multi-view display, is also studied in this paper.
