With the rapid development of computer technology and network technology, not only bring us convenience, but also pose a severe test on the security of the information on the network, which will suffer a variety of attacks when transmission. As digital watermarking can solve a lot of problems such as information certification, now it gains more and more attentions. While in the past few decades, a large number of digital watermarking algorithms have been proposed, but it cannot be denied that the technology is not mature. Therefore, digital watermarking technology theory and practical application models has a strong research value.Communication technology and digital watermarking technology as the basis of information theory, the two technologies are very similar. Multiple description coding (MDC) which is very effective method to solve packet loss in communication technology, can be also used in watermarking technology. Based on the research of classic algorithm in watermarking and multiple description coding, a multiple description coding based semi-fragile watermarking algorithm framework was proposed, and according to this framework, we designed an algorithm. By choosing a large embedding capacity recovery watermarking algorithm and authentication watermarking method which can locate the tampered region by 2*2, it can pinpoint locate the tampered region and data of region of interest can be recovered. By the algorithm simulation, validate its feasibility and future research directions was proposed.
