Because of the exponential growth of available Web Services and the diversified of user needs, manual selection and composition of existing services are becoming increasingly difficult and inefficient. Therefore automated Web service selection and composition techniques have attracted many researchers' attention. Currently, Fluent Calculus is known for its high intelligence and automation features in AI (Artificial intelligence) domain. Furthermore, Fluent Calculus has good performance especially in a large reasoning set which has been favored by many researchers in service composition area. This paper presents a Fluent Calculus based, context-aware Web service composition model. This model is an AI planning-based web service composition technique which translates Web service composition problem into the field of artificial intelligence planning problem, through the existing environmental knowledge acquisition and reasoning to achieve the desired goals. In this paper, we establish models of Web service, Web service context and Web service composition based on the theory of Fluent Calculus. In addition, we extend the Fluent Calculus' basic axioms (Initial State axioms and State Update axioms) in context related area that makes Fluent Calculus based Web service composition context aware. Then we implement the Fluent Calculus based, context-aware Web service composition model using FLUX (Fluent Calculus executor) with "digital tourism service" such a scenario. The experimental results show that this method has context-aware capability and better service composition results. The further research has two aspects mainly. One is optimization of Web service composition control flow algorithm to improve the efficiency of service composition. On the other hand, we will focus on the service selection area taking advantage of Fluent Calculus and achieve the integration of Web service selection and composition.
