In the large context of increasingly intensified globalization and convenient contact between people from all over the world as well as the opening of the World Expo in Shanghai, the demand of translation has been continually increasing, of which, written translation, especially the translation in the form of Microsoft office, remains as the area of the highest demand in the translation industry. The employment of software, in the translation work of large orders, contributes to reduction of workforce and cost, which is undoubtedly leading the trend in this industry of the future. While on the other hand, software that can be applied to the translation industry is of small quantity in type, which is invariably expensive charging software. Translation companies involved in the industry profiting in a relatively low quantity, would be likely to hesitate to purchase software of thousands of yuan. This essay, therefore, aims to create a tool to assist translation.The analysis of demand, the design of process and database, the development of code and the final test of the software are all conducted independently. It entails the finding that software development is a project of teamwork. Moreover, the invariability and complexity of the translation industry result in the difficulty in operation. Hence, it is painfully difficult to create software which is of excellent compatibility and applies to translators of low levels of software and computer skills.The design makes full use of the high capability of database including Microsoft Visual Studio and Microsoft SQL Server 2000, facilitating the operation in efficiency and reliability. The software in this study utilizes the model of sentence segmentation, matching according to similarity, repetition filtering, producing the Excel list where the translation task is shown. The translated part can be immediately drawn out; the tool of online Google translation can also be utilized to expedite the translation process. Meanwhile, web service based on the database server that calculates matching rate can considerably improve efficiency and achieves the speed equal to that of the charging software as is declared. the study on this design, along with the current prevalent research and practice of calculation, eventually proves that the electronic-document translation assisting tool designed in this study can meet the need of Small and medium translation enterprises in improving the efficiency of translation management and cost reduction.
