Medical imaging equipment own different imaging principle, so that medical images obtained with different physical structure. Due to lack of integration of medical information with images, doctors had to have different characteristics of medical images together manually comparative analysis, which will surely have a strong uncertainty. Developed in the last century, 90 years of medical image fusion technology, can be summarized as the different characteristics of medical image information, as a solution to single information of image data.This article studies the multi-resolution, multi-dimensional medical image fusion algorithm. In the detailed description of multi-resolution pyramid fusion method of thinking,it carries out Laplacian, contrast ratio and contrast pyramid of medical image fusion simulation experiment.Physiologist studies have shown that the best image representation should be a multi-resolution, multi-directional decomposition.Therefore, this article in-depth study on contourlet transformation and NSCT(nonsubsampled contourle transform) transformation that can be multi-resolution, multi-directional decomposition of the medical images. At the same time,with the characteristics of medical images,it obtains that the center of the region to the energy-weighted average fusion rule. In order to verify the validity of the fusion rule,some medical image fusion simulation experiments based on contourlet,with gradient and the region to the energy-weighted average,have been done. Both subjective and objective evaluation of the fusion images show that the rule is effect. Although contourlet transform can be achieved the multi-resolution, multi-dimensional decomposition, the algorithm itself will produce frequency aliasing, it will give the medical image fusion brought virtual shadow, to a certain extent, the fusion effect will be affected. Due to use of non-sampling and non-sampling filter,NSCT transform resolves contourlet transform's frequency aliasing,its perfect multi-resolution, and multi-directional properties more appropriate on field of medical image fusion. Compared to medical image fusion based on contourlet transform, medical image fusion simulation experiments based on NSCT's gradient and the region to the energy-weighted average,show that fusion image eliminates virtual shadow brought on based on contourlet.Meanwhile,medical fusion image looks more clearly. The all medical image fusion simulation experiments were completed using Matlab7.1 simulation software.
