According to the development tendency of video surveillance system, this paper introduced a new network video surveillance head based on SOPC technology. The video monitor is a key component of the network video surveillance system which is composed of video surveillance server, correlative network equipment and a number of PC clients. The video surveillance server used two NiosⅡprocessors which are designed for the capture, compression and transmission of the video image. CMOS image sensor OV9650 is selected as the capture chip.Meanwhile, the network server follows the streamlined TCP/IP protocol LWIP andμC/OS-Ⅱis used to implement multi-task management and scheduling. The original image data need to be compressed before network transmission. A new video compression standard H.264 is selected as the compression algorithm of the system because of its good compression performance. This paper introduced a new solution scheme with VHDL hardware description language according to the great arithmetic of the encoding algorithm. Meanwhile, the video monitor also provides a lot of convenience for the network terminal equipment. For example, the network terminal device can initiate remote access and control the image transmission through IP address. The driving of the image sensor, hardware design of the DCT transform and quantization module,CAVLC entropy encoding module in the process of transform encoding, the transplantation ofμC/OS-Ⅱsupporting LWIP and socket programming are introduced in detail in this paper. Besides, the image capture interface implement customization, sharing of the memory chip, data transfer and synchronization between the two CPUs are also introduced in detail. The system chose Nios II development board provided by Altera as testbench. Experimental results indicate that the system can realize the function of local-area and network video monitor and the quality of surveillance image is good.
