With the development of society and sustainable growing economy, the remote sensing technology is applied in various disciplines and fields, such as surveying and mapping, meteorology, land resource survey, natural disaster monitoring & environment protection, national defense, energy, traffic and so on. The metadata of remote sensing plays an important role in effective organization, storage, management and sharing of the study.Meanwhile, the mass, heterogeneous, and distributed sensing data is produced continuously. However, the current remote sensing data extraction methods are mainly artificially reading based on manual inputing data and writing algorithms to extract according to the header file which has the specific structure of the document and the demand of the end user. These methods are not only inefficient, but also couldn't adapt to the complexity of header document's structure and temporary variability, unpredictable requirements of the end-users, this all blocks the application of the remote sensing technology in many disciplines and fields. A new method is proposed in order to extract efficiently and conveniently the remote sensing data, and to rapidly meet the application requirements of end-users.Based on the deep study of the programming by demonstration technology and the Internet technology, this paper proposed the method of extracting remote sensing metadata based on the programming by demonstrate and the system scheme of extraction on the basis of Internet technology. The system uses ASP.NET technology to provide a visual environment based on the B/S structure for end-users. It allows that end-users needn't write any code, and only need study the rule of extracting metadata in the visual environment, which is very efficacious and convenient. The application of the system shows that it is well universal, meets the application requirements from end-users, and has very broad application prospects.
