| Political development and political modernization of those Third World countries have long been one of the key research of comparative politics. Since 1992, a golden age for the democratic political development had come to Thailand, and especially with the 1997 Thailand Constitutionâ€s promulgation and implementation, which is known as "the most democratic" in the history, Thailand is regarded as a model of democracy in Southeast Asia,by UK,USA and other Western countries. However, after2005, Thailand got troubles with it’s political development. With So much political chaos and political instability, normal political order was severely damaged. Thailand has now become a "failed state of political decay," in the Political Order Theory’s sense. We are pulled back to the brutal reality, realizing that the modernization and democratic consolidation in Thailand is far from completation. This paper analyzes the four periods of Thai’s history since the begining of the modernization, namely Monarchy period,Authoritarian period, Plutocracy period and the period after Plutocracy period. And then, based on the Political Order Theory, this paper analyzes causes of Thailand’s troubled political developments and propose a way to get Thailand out of the current dilemma of political development. This paper argues that Thailand’s current predicament of political development was mainly due to the heavy praetorian and street politics, the fragile democracy of Thailand and the impact of traditional forces, as well as the weak party politcs. Therefore, such measures should be taken: Promoting the integration of urban and rural areas, reconstructing political communities, improving democracy’s political authority, and rebuilding and improving the party system. |
