It has been years since the Burma anti-dam movement launched out, andpreviously ignored NGOs are of vital importance in the action. Launched in2009andstopped in2011, the Myitsone dam has always been the focus. Claimed to work forsustainable development in Kachin state, the KDNG, i.e Kachin DevelopmentNetwork Group, persistently opposed the construction. Even after the dam wasstopped, it prevented the dam from being resumed and doubted whether the dam wastruly stopped. As a NGO, it played a vital role in the anti-dam movement. Its diverseparticipation ways during the whole anti-dam movement impressed us a lot and worthfurther discussion. In the past few years, KDNG’s unremittingly opposition to theMyitsone dam do have negative effects to our economy. As an example of thecompanies which invest overseas, the China Power Investment Corporation would bean alarm to other companies. The action of the NGOs including KDNG broughtmassive losses to not only our economy but also national image. Our state-ownedcompanies should learn from that in case the tragedy happens again.
