The reformation of legal system in the late Qing Dynasty triggered the rise of legaleducation and gave birth to the modern Chinese legal education. As to the development inthe Republic of China, the legal education was still quite prevalent due to the realrequirement of the political and legal system′s reform, the utilitarian mentality of theeducators and learners, and other reasons. A variety of higher educational institutions oflaw were set up, whose tendency was almost uncurbed. The central government adopted aseries of measures and formulated a series of decrees and regulations to regulate it,eventually forming a rather stable mode of teaching and education, and paving the wayfurther for the later legal education. The legal education in the republican China was of quite significance in the wholehistory of Chinese legal education. It implemented the teaching idea of general education, took advantage of the legal educations in civil law system and common law system, andtrained a lot of theoretical and practical talents in the field of law. It spread modernphilosophy of law, promoted legal education legislation, and also put influence on thelegislations of the entire education field. However, the excessive prosperity of legal education in the Republic of China led toa structural imbalance of higher education and abnormal development of the educationsystem. Many schools were set up for the utilitarian mentality of those operators, and thelack of qualified teachers and the shallow quality of education made the domesticeducational institutions varied greatly. In addition, the legal education during this periodjust imitated the west countries excessively and had little innovation, which means theimpossibility for such education to rank the top in the world.
