Capriccio No.3 of Erhu is one of the magnum opus of George Gao ’s capriccio series, published in 2009.It is a combination of Chinese and western elements which based on Chinese traditional pentatonic scale,integrated into jazz, blues, Europe and the United States folk dance.This thesis will be divided into four parts:The introduction, it expounds the background and its significance of this selected topic, the literature review of relevant subject and the thesis’ s research thought and main content of this paper.The first chapter, erhu performer and composer George Gao.In this chapter, mainly introduces George Gao’s biography, his achievement in the field of performance and creation and his social impact.The second chapter, the analysis of this work.It analyzed from this work of creation motive and musical structure.The third chapter, playing techniques. In this part, definitely interprets the special playing techniques and the difficulty problems when plays this work and puts forward how to explore the method to solve the problem.
