| Mezzo soprano, also known as subprime soprano, has experienced a very long course from the birth of the voice part to the gradual establishment of its singing art. The mezzo soprano is of great significance. The phenomenon of cross-casting role by Mezzo-soprano in the opera originates from historical relic imposed by religious rules. It is also a selection after the liberation of taboos. This thesis elaborates the significance of mezzo soprano from a perspective of music history. By analyzing the type and characteristics of mezzo soprano in the opera, multiple colors of the real mezzo soprano have been thoroughly understood and demonstrated. Based on Romeo’s aria, the cross-casting role played by mezzo soprano, in the opera I Capuleti edi Montecchi, I put an emphasis on the performance of her aria to comprehensively understand this character and improve singing skills. This thesis discusses the features of vocal cross-casting of mezzo soprano from both the technique requirement and the mental experience, so as to offer some methods towards a better interpretation of the cross-casting role by mezzo soprano. |
