The course of Basic Graphic Design is the most fundamental subject for the graphic design major in secondary vocational schools. It is the starting point for most of the students involved in the field of design. And this course can help students to establish the conception of basic design. There are many problems in the course of Basic Graphic Design teaching in our school(Kai Yuan vocational middle school), such as, the single and repeated teaching contents, the rigid teaching methods, the dull teaching process, the students’ weariness of learning. All the problems caused the poor practice and teaching results. The course which is a stepping-stone for the students becomes a stumbling block for them. It will influence the following learning of specialized courses.Aiming at the problems mentioned above in teaching, the author puts forward the tentative idea of using Yunnan minority groups’ patterns to help students to learn the course of Basic Graphic Design in our school under the background of the graphic design development trend of nationalization, localization and emotionalization. In this thesis, the author will analyze Yunnan minority groups’ patterns, the characteristics of graphic design course and the teaching situation, and the feasibility of using the patterns to help teachers to teach graphic design course in our school. The author starts teaching practice in the form of design projects by combining experiential learning method and project teaching method. Through the following teaching practice, such as, creating the national multimedia teaching situation, processing the teaching content with characteristics of minorities, providing abundant of national emotion experience, guiding students’ observing and thinking, helping them to reflect and communicate and so on, the teacher finds that the students paid much attention to the teacher in the classroom and the level of knowledge and skills of students was also developed. The students’ learning motivation and learning habits are enhanced and improved and the quality of students’ works is been sure. In addition, the students’ employment and professional rate improved significantly from the recording and data analysis.Thus, using Yunnan minority groups’ patterns to help the teaching of Basic Graphic Design course is effective. It is a feasible way.
