The word “peace” is originated from description of social mentality in traditional Chinese culture. Various ideas advocated by Taoism like passive inaction, returning to original nature and conforming to nature require people to achieve peaceful mentality so as to realize harmonious coexistence of people and nature and unity of man and nature. With the constant rising up of researches of Chinese traditional culture psychology and under the several-thousand-year grand cultural background of China, this paper has made a discussion of peaceful mentality which is a psychological factor that is internalized into ways of thinking, emotion and behavior of Chinese people. With the constant deepening of China’s aging degree, mental health of the aged has become a focus of Chinese society. The issue of the adaptation of empty nesters, solitary aged people and retired adults has become a problem that is urgent to be solved. Viewing those aged groups, we can discover some of them may get frustrated and have negative changes to mood and personality when they suffer from frustrations or major accidents; however, some of them take them slightly and keep their mentality undisturbed because of external circumstances; they treat themselves and others in a more peaceful way so as to face and enjoy their lives with ease, comprehend life and love it. Those are results of different mentalities. Peaceful mentality not only makes people deal with hardships with ease but also view the world and life with peaceful mentality under various circumstances. This paper, through discussing the positive impact of peaceful mind of the aged on themselves, has put forward some measures that enable the aged to adjust their mood with peaceful mentality in future life, handle various pressures and conflicts in life, improve mentality health level of the aged and live a more comfortable and peacefullater life. This paper, from perspectives of improving physical and psychological health of the aged and psychology, has summarized connotation of peaceful mentality with semantic analysis. Meanwhile, qualitative research is applied for having in-depth interviews of 40 aged people in total according to a self-prepared interview syllabus. After that, voice records of the interviews are transcribed word by word and a systematic and comprehensive analysis is conducted with grounded theory for coding class by class. Upon that, a further study of factors that affect mentality of the aged is made. It is discovered that peaceful mentality of the aged is affected by individual internal reasons and external reasons and there are obvious external manifestations. In total there are four factors which are further divided into thirteen sub-factors.Individual internal reasons: there are three factors including cognition, capability and psychological resources. Among them, cognitive factor refers to cognitive negative events, reasonable self cognition and cognition of living and life; ability factors primarily include interpersonal contact ability, self adjustment ability, good problem-solving ability and emotional ability; as with psychological resources, psychological quality and extensive hobbies are considered.External factors: primarily presented as social factors, including family environment and peer relations.External manifestations: external manifestations of peaceful-mind aged people are primarily presented in behavior and mood. Behaviors are divided into two factors:coping style and daily behaviors; on the other hand, mood is divided into another two factors: state of mind and emotional stability. Finally, relevant suggestions are proposed with a view to providing effective references for the aged and relevant people who care about the aged.
