Guangxi in Song dynasty witnessed a prosperity of porcelain exportation. During this period, porcelain kilns of Guangxi mainly produced blue porcelains and blue-white porcelains, both outstanding in quality and quantity. Blue-white porcelains were especially produced for exportation, which can be still found in Xijiang river area, with Tengxian county’s Zhonghe kiln, Rongxian county’s Chengguan kiln, Bei Liuling’s Tong kiln, and Guixian county’s Gui Ping kiln being the main sites. Porcelains were mainly transported by boat, starting from Xijiang River to Guangzhou port which is the access to the ocean; alternative is also available, from inland to Qinzhou port. This thesis studies the vicissitudes of blue-white kilns of Guangxi in Song dynasty. Today’s kilns ruins are mainly in North River area. Back to Song dynasty, these kilns produced blue-white porcelains firstly as daily necessities and later for exportation. As a result, the destiny of the kilns were closely related with rise and decline of Guangzhou port.Sales routes are another focus of the thesis. Since Guangxi’s major blue-white porcelain market is overseas, porcelain products’ types and management are in service of export sales. Depending on Xijiang River-Guangzhou port and inland-Qinzhou port, porcelain exportation largely boosted Guangxi’s economical and cultural development.
