On The Artistic Features Of Martha Graeme 's Dance

This dissertation aims to solve and analyze on the several aspects on “create the technique”, “the construction of theatricality”,“explore the humanity” and“pursue the life”.Depending on combining the technique of “contraction and release” with the choreography, Graham increasing create her own systems. It is the unique method to create the choreographies is that Graham used the view of feminism to create a role from her piece. It became a new expression of theatrical dance. Her choreographies focus on the psychoanalysis, which is borrowing the Greek Myth to explore human’s psychological space and humanity deeply. In her choreographies, we can see her ideas on showing women’s social state and living circumstances. We also can see her preference on setting props and her aesthetic through the pieces. Both of them show her target to reveal the life. In my essay, I am mainly use the one of the typical pieces of “Night Journey” to analyze Martha Graham’s art, which is especially on her choreographic methods, choreographic thinking, and aesthetic on life. It is a great enlightenment of choreographic methods, choreographic composition, the culture from the piece, caring about the society and reality, explore the humanity and show the humanism for us on Chinese modern dance.
