Since the 20 th century, China’s contemporary art received the influence of mainstream Western art, but there are a large number of Chinese artists retained the traditional culture. China has five thousand years in the history forever, however, in the last few hundred years we damaged the essence of traditional culture. Therefore, we need to rethink and review what the representative of China is, especially in the contemporary art. In recent years, the artists began the transmission of traditional cultural elements as a creative roots. In the field of contemporary sculpture, how we inherit the essence of Chinese traditional culture is the crucial question. This article is discussing four question about the theme above: What is it? why? How to do? How in the future. The instruction focuses the current developments and market prospects of contemporary sculpture;the first chapter discusses what is the traditional culture in contemporary sculpture; the second chapter considers why it is; the third chapter discusses how it is; the last one focuses the current developments and market prospects. The traditional culture is fundamental for contemporary sculpture, which also helps Chinese sculpture intered the international market.
