A Study On The Creation And Performance Of Gong Xiaoting 's "Water Cloud"

“Clouds Reflected In Water” was composed by Xiaoting Gong in the end of 20 th century, which was included in her piano collection “Night—Clouds Reflected In Water”. It won the Excellence Award in the "San Carlo Cup" National Piano Works Competition. This piece of work fully shows the unique music language in Xiaoting Gong’s piano works.At the beginning, this thesis introduces the composer Xiaoting Gong. Then after interviewing Xiaoting Gong to know the creation background of this piano work, this thesis analyzes “Clouds Reflected In Water” from three parts- structure analysis, thematic analysis and harmonic analysis. In addition, based on performing “Clouds Reflected In Water”, this thesis will research the work in timbre and touching, speed and strength, and the use of pedal to find a suitable way to perform this work. I hope I can make a little contribution in researching Chinese piano music in the 20 th century through analyzing “Clouds Reflected In Water”.
