Xu Jie is praised for his political identity. Replacing Yansong and becoming the prime minister in Jialong period made him occupy a space in the history of the Ming Dynasty, but in historical studies of this period,Xu Jie is the most easily overlooked beacuse there are two hot characters ——Yan Song and Zhang Juzheng. As a prominent politician even be ignored in historical research, there is almost no one to study Xu’s literary works. Compared with the contemporary people, wether it’s from the quantity or from the overall quality, Xu’s literature is slightly inferior. but Xu Jie’s literary works “Shaohu Wen Ji “ contains seven volumes,“Shi Jing Tang Ji”contains twenty-six volumes and “Shi Jing Tang Xu Ji”contains fourteen volumes include a wealth of content, much of which is with strong literary, so Xu’s literary works should’t be ignored. And it is necessary to study his life and his literature.This paper mainly studies Xu Jie’s life, his friends, his writings, his poetry and article, and the study of ideological content and artistic features of his poetry and article is the key point of this paper. By analyzing his literature’s social value and artistic value, we can see his achievements in literature. The first chapter is mainly the situation of Xu’s life, friends and writings, and for a more detailed introduction his literary works. The second chapter is the research on Xu Jie’s poetry, poetry here adopted a generalized concept, including the creation of Xu Jie’s Yuefu, metrical poems, Song poems, songs and so on. This chapter focuses on two aspects of ideological content and artistic features of Xu Jie’s poetry. According to the ideological content, Xu Jie’s poetry is mainly divided into four types, they are:homesick poems, entertainment poems with friends, feeling poems and describing objects poems.The poems mainly to reflect his nature and real feelings, the words are vivid beacuse they are choiced carefully. At the same time, the poems are sincere and touching with a wealth of emotions. The third chapter is the analysis of Xu Jie’s articles. Xu Jie wrote a lot of articles, and his articles are diverse, also rich in content.The part of practical writings which include the Zoudui,Shicao,Zoushu,Zai,Song,Dui have a very high historical value, at the same time, some articles also have certain literature value. Epitaph articles mainly include his prose epitaph for others as elegiac,tombstone, monument and so on. The main content of letters articles are concerning about the state people’s livelihood, confiding, academic exchanging and so on. Thepolitical articles main contain the Zoushu about Xu’s contributions to border,reflecting his administrative programme, showing his concern for the country and the king. The article “The Will of Jia Jing”and “Long Qing ascends the throne”played an important role in turning the tide of Jialong period. This kind of articles are with rigorous thinking, reasoning incisive, sincere words and melody. Chapter four analysis Xu’s literature achievements, mainly through the ancient library from the diachronic perspective to see the description and collected of works about his literary,and according these we can analyze the literature achievements of him.According the analysis of Xu Jie and his literary works, in terms of content and art, this paper believes that Xu’s literature can’t be ignored, his literary works should be studied.
