A Study On The Sacrificial Customs Of Xu Clan In Four Seasons

Chinese clan is the core of Chinese traditional social system. It has a deep influence on common people on survival, unity, civilization, self-discipline and mutual assistance with the bond of blood relationship,in the principle of pedigree, by the way of production,ancestor worship,domestic discipline and shan poor weak. In the changing of culture, It is an effective to way to justify clan’s value and construct family memory and clan’s order by identifying the ancestor, worshiping and sacrificing the clans. Clan-worshiping is the commonest faith culture, at the same time, it reflects the real relationship between clan and society. As a communal signal, ancestor memory and the symbol of clan’s cultural identity, the changing of clans’ worshiping custom expresses directly how the modernization and urbanization exert the effect on traditional local society. The thesis explores Xu’s religious and worshiping custom in the 1950s in Sijiqing county, Lanzhou, Gansu Province, based on modernization and urbanization during that time. Through our observing and researching the development of the custom. It shows clearly the social significance of clan’s culture and sacrificing tradition on nowaday’s society.This paper contains three parts. The first part starts from the origin and the meaning of the topic,which focuses on the analysis of the research status of relate d research, and propose the research perspective, research ideas and research met hods.The second part is the body which includes 4 chapters. The first chapter intr oduces the geography and the humanities condition of Sijiqing village. Also, it gives a brief introduction of clan genealogy, marriage system, community organizations of Sijiqing village. The second chapter discusses Xu’s clans sacrificing custom and time-space domain in Sijiqing county. It discusses respectively Xu’s clan change issue on community sacrificing tradition, sacrificing mentality and sense from the macro and microcosmic prospective. The third chapter analyzes and summarizes the differences of modern Xu community on the basis of watching a communal sacrificing ceremony. It obtains four symbolic signals--funeral oration, monumentalization, distribution of sacrifice and raising money. It discusses the deep meaning and emotion. The fourth chapter discusses about sacrificing custom and meaning analyzes and answers the creative subject, creative reason, transformation method and interactive way. And then, It selects a logical links of idealistic condition, realistic situation and solution to connect the community order, summarize and analyze the community sacrificing custom effect on community changing right.The conclusion part clearly points the relationship between urbanization and local tradition. Regarding the clan as the main part of the local culture,It emphasizes the interaction between traditional power and newly-born power, from the prospective of Ontology.
