The achievement of Song Dynasty landscape painting occupies a decisive position in the history of Chinese landscape painting. Under the influence of the special social background, a large number of outstanding landscape painting painters as well as relatively mature theory of landscape painting emerged during this period, all of which marked the beginning of mature period of Song Dynasty’s landscape development. The purpose of this thesis is to furtherly learn from predecessors for the technique of landscape’s spatial artistic conception building by analyzing the spatial construction way of Song Dynasty.This thesis is divided into three parts, the first part analyses the landscape theory that emerged in all the dynasties. By the analyzing, we can learn the understanding of predecessors’ painting construction form, we can learn the “New Confucianism” as well as the thought of Zhuang Zi, we can learn the emphasis to the theory of “learning from nature”, we can learn the theory basis of landscapes’ maturation. The second part, which is also the main part of this thesis,introduces the “three fars” of Guo Xi, the representative works of Li Cheng, Fan Kuan, Li Tang,Liu Songnian, Ma Yuan, Xia Gui, analyses the “panoramic landscape” of Northern Song and“partial landscape” of Southern Song. The last part returns back to modern, it tells the communication of Chinese and western painting thoughts, the development of landscape painting, and the achievements made by the modern landscape master painters, all of which give new birth to the Chinese landscape painting.In the drawing of Chinese painting, in addition to the management of position, we should pay more attention to the vigor, romantic charm and artistic conception, all of which are conveyed by the spatial construction in the picture. So, for the understanding of landscape composition, we should not only be practical, but also be imaginative. Only by doing this, can we express the special spirit of Chinese painting.
