A Study On The Female Filial Piety In The Han Dynasty

“Filial piety is the most important of all virtue”,Filial piety is one of the most important social ethical ethics in ancient China. It is conducive to the stability of families and the formation of good social moral. On the ruins of the brutal Qin Dynasty established the Han Dynasty which adopts the policy of “ruling the world with filial piety” and promotes the filial piety vigorously, recognizing of filial conduct. At present, the research on Han Dynasty’s female filial piety is weak, which has not yet been specialized in this field research. The author tried to make a comprehensive and systematic research on filial piety of Han dynasty’s female.First of all, the author analyzed the origins of filial piety and the development that Pre-Qin Confucian had made on filial piety. In this part the author analyzed the origin of the filial piety and the development of filial piety in the Xia, Shang and Zhou period in ancient China. During The spring and autumn period and the warring states period, represented by Confucius, Zengzi,Mencius, Xunzi’s Confucian enrich and develop filial piety, which helped the filial piety to form a set of complete and rich connotation of ethics.Secondly, the author introduced the background and enlightenment of female filial piety in Han Dynasty. Because the governing the country by filial piety in Han Dynasty, filial piety had been got unprecedented attention. The government adopted corresponding policy to advocate filial piety, praised female filial conduct, punished unfilial behavior, also payed attention to train female’s filial piety from a young age. In the Confucian classics of “The Book of Rrites”, “Filial Piety”, “Female Biography”, “Nv Jie”, the theory of female filial piety had made effect on the education of female filial piety in Han Dynasty.Thirdly, the author inspected the specific manifestation way of female filial piety of Han Dynasty. The filial conduct of female in Han Dynasty, generally can be divided into three categories: daughter’s filial piety to own parents; married women’s filial piety to parents- in-law and a mother’s filial piety to her family.Fully use all kinds of historical materials, the author analyzed the filial conduct of different roles of women of Han dynasty comprehensively and systematically..Finally, through the above analysis, the author summarized the era characteristic of Han Dynasty female filial piety, expounded the influence of Han Dynasty female filial piety to Han Dynasty society and the later generations.
