On Kant 's Artistic Genius

According to Kant’s theories, the beautiful art is the genius’ art,genius is the reflection of nature in art and nature offers the rules to art through genius. In this way,genius appears like nature through expressing aesthetic concept. Genius exists in subjectivity,gets original features from the gift of nature.In Kant’s aesthetic theory system, he finished the transition from aesthetic judgement to teleology judgement through the genius.The genius concept from Kant includes three features:originality,exemplary and conformity to end.Kant considers originality as the first feature of genius, which obtains from momentary inspiration and emphasizes on its uniqueness and deduplication,.In Kant’s opinion, the originality includes mysteriousness and the regardlessness of science. Based on originality,Kant emphasizes exemplary, the example includes aesthetic ideas,is role models for posterity. On this basis, the creation of artistic works of the end but not the end dialectically explains the relationships among nature,freedom and art.In mental mechanism,genius creates aesthetic ideas and phrases aesthetic ideas.Imagination works under the coordination of intellectuality.Moreover,rationality and imagination works together to extend aesthetic ideas through symbols in aesthetic signification.In Kant’s opinion,genius’ creative ability is inherent,but appreciation ability can be acquired though learning and training.Genius is original, appreciation ability is universally valid. Imagination is the most important mental mechanism of genius’,and intellectuality is necessary to appreciation ability.Kant proposes that appreciation is more important than genius.Genius is not necessary to appreciation ability,but appreciation ability is necessary to genius.The deficiencies of Kant’s theories about genius is that Kant limits genius to formulating rules for beautiful art, which is not enough. He opposes the concepts of genius and appreciation ability. In fact,genius and appreciation ability are coexist. As genius’ art, beautiful art is interdependent beauty which includes sensible content.However, Kant just emphasizes on imagination and intellectuality, which does not conform to the fact of artistic works. Moreover, Kant’s ignorance of social connotation of genius makes genius too mysterious,which is lack of actual foundation.
