Chinese English Studies In Lin Yutang 's Trilogy

Based on the previous study, this paper makes a mul-perspective study about the China English in Lin Yutang’s trilogy, including the perspectives of linguistics, pragmatics, and the cross-culture. It also generalizes the readers’views about Lin’s trilogy at home and abroad. All these is trying to make it clear why it is a success about Lin’s usage of China English to realize the spreading of Chinese culture and the enlightenments it gives to the cultural translation in future. The purpose of this paper is trying to analyze the creative cultural translation strategy of Lin and enrich the academic study of Lin.All the specific details of each perspective are as follows.1. Of the linguistic perspective. This paper is mean to analyze Lin’s different translation strategies of Chinese cultural terms from three levels, like lexical features, syntactic features, and discourse features.2. Of the pragmatic perspective. The author firstly uses the speech act theory and the theory of conversational implication to explain the how Lin’s creative translation of China English to show Chinese culture and takes some examples in trilogy to testify it. Then, in the same way, the author displays the Chinese rhetoric devices in China English in Lin’s trilogy and gives some examples in it.3. Of the cross-cultural perspectives. The author firstly illuminates China English’s alienation feature from the concept and features of China English, and lists the Chinese cultural terms in trilogy from the five branches of culture. It will help to show the function of China English in process of introducing Chinese culture to the world. At last, this paper provides the acceptance of Lin’s trilogy both in China and abroad. Since Lin’s trilogy with China English are well-accepted by the public in at home and abroad, it strongly proved the acceptability and feasibility of China English. The author generalizes the factors of Lin’s success of being a good sample of spreading Chinese culture and the enlightenments gotten from trilogy towards cultural translation in future.Through the multi-perspective studies of China English in Lin’s trilogy, this paper aims to illuminate how Lin uses the creative translation methods, China English, and the various translation strategies to build up a perfect translation, to show and introduce the distinctive Chinese culture. This paper enlightens the other translator to make full use of language imagination and creativity and to be bold to use China English to show the greatness and charm of Chinese culture in translation.
