A Study On The Composition Of Landscape Painting In

Jian Jiang is a master artist in Ming and Qing Dynasty. He has inherited the traditions of the four master artists of the middle and late Yuan Dynasty (Huang Gongwang, Ni Zan, Wu Zhen & Wang Meng), and initiated the School of Xin’an. Jian Jiang’s landscape paintings do not only attain outstanding achievements in art, but also provide vital links for context of art in the Yuan, Ming, and Qing Dynasty. His active explorations and practical experience in landscape paintings exert a profound influence on ages, and promote the development of landscape painting art form.The research interests in Jian Jiang mainly focus on his life experience, painting style and impacts on the School of Xin’an and the School of Huangshan. The composition features of his landscape paintings only appear in some comrehensive documentation. So, there is still room for the theoretical study of the composition of landscape paintings.The present thesis takes the composition of Jian Jiang’s landscape paintings as the object of study, mainly employs the method of historical study and works analysis, analyzes and studies the composition features, causes and significance of his landscape paintings. The thesis can be divided into three parts:Chapter One introduces the overall artistic features of his landscape paintings with reference to present literature and findings; Chapter Two makes a deep analysis of the prominent features and causes of the distinctive composition of his landscape paintings; Chapter Three discusses the contributions of his composition to the development of Chinese landscape paintings and today’s artistic creation in modelling, view finding and atmosphere building.
