The Military Poetry in the Southern Song Dynasty is affected by the unique Social and historical environment as well as the prior creative experience. That endow the Military Poetry in the Southern Song Dynasty special research value in the field of literature and culture.This thesis select the Military Poetry in the Southern Song Dynasty as an object of research. It starts with the analysis of the political and historical background, the situation of the Southern Song Dynasty’s poetic circles and the transformation of the poets’ understanding of the war between the Southern Song Dynasty and the regime of ethnic minority in different historical stages. And then it analyses the characteristics of the Military Poetry in the Southern Song Dynasty from the aspects of the content, the artistic expression and the overall style by comparing the object with the military poetry in the Tang Dynasty and the Northern Song Dynasty. In this thesis, the Military Poetry in the Southern Song Dynasty is divided into five classes according to the content: the true record of the war situation, the encouraging words, the heroic utterance of serving the country, the record of the life in the camp and the sympathy for the soldiers. In the aspect of artistic characteristics, it illustrates the object’s emphasis on the discussion and the images with the characteristics of the times comparing with the military poetry in the Tang Dynasty and the combination of lyric and discussion as well as the use of the imagination comparing with the military poetry in the Northern Song Dynasty. In the aspect of style characteristics, it elaborates the overall style of the Military Poetry in the Southern Song Dynasty is dominated by the gloomy and solemn style, with the bold and generous style as the supplement. It also expound the inheritance of the characteristic by the poetry works with the similar theme in the Ming Dynasty on the object. At last it illustrates the object’s character of Poetry as History and the complex of the praises to the history and the causes in the form of special topics.This thesis use the research method of combing the text research with the comparative studies. Through the vertical contrast, it grasps the object’s characteristics of all aspects. It also combines the comprehension of the poetry with historical data to ensure the reliability of the demonstration.
