Patrick Kong’s romantic film is popular with wide audience because it fits massive aesthetic tastes and values, concentrates on the phenomenon of love and marriage which nowadays contemporary urban youth follow with interest. Cruelty and realistic creative style with anti-fairytale and anti-traditional love concept makes Patrick Kong’s romantic film show itself in Chinese movies. The narrative strategy and audiovisual style in his film are worth learning and studying, and how to tell a love story alternative and unique was emphatically introduced in this paper.The chapter 1 of this thesis is to study the features of Patrick Kong’s romantic film in love story narration and character image-building by the theory of film narratology. Chapter 2 presents a deep analysis of audiovisual style of his film by the method of case analysis. Chapter 3 cuts in from the narrative angle to study the method of telling a love story alternative and unique in Patrick Kong’s romantic film.
