A Study On The Imagery Form And Performance

The Guzheng song “Eternal Love”, which is adapt from a famous Chinese poem “Chunjianghuayueye”, is a mix of Chinese traditional music and Local music from Shanxi Province. It sucessfully expresses the theme of “grief” from the poem based on both traditional Chinese music composition theory and contemporary music composition theory. By using the methodology of pentatonic scale mode transform and the contemporary Guzheng technique, the author summarizes the images of “love”, “grief”, “anger” and “recall” from the song, and discusses the issue related to expression of these images.
