A Study Of Su Zhe 's "Spring And Autumn Annals"

Su Zhe is a famous litterateur and Confucianist of Confucian classics in SongDynasty，he also is one of "Eight Great Men of the Tang and Song dynasties"．Inthe aspect of Confucian classics，he explored the reasons of neglecting Confucianclassics and commentaries on the classic "Spring and Autumn Annals"．Su Zheadopted other views if he agreed with them when he researched the "Spring andAutumn Annals "． He mainly adopted " Zuo Zhuan "， then " Gong YangZhuan"，"Gu Liang Zhuan"and so on，he stressed the importance of history on theclassic．Su Zhe reiterated the value of “Zuo Zhuan"and stressed that "Spring andAutumn Annals"was classic but not history．This view had a significant impact onthe development of the study on " Spring and Autumn Annals " for the latergenerations．This paper takes Su Zhe’s work，" Concentrated Explain on Spring andAutumn Annals"，as its subject and does a in-depth study on this book on the basisof former studies．There are four chapters in this paper．The first chapter is an introduction of Su Zhe，including his life and works．SuZhe and his father and brother said "Three Su"．He had experienced five emperorsduring the Song Dynasty．His fate was full of twists and turns．Then he retired toLong Chuan for13years．During this period，he worked hard to write．His rich worksincluded literary works and classics works．The second chapter mainly discusses the background of"Concentrated Explainon Spring and Autumn Annals"．The first section，classics of change in the SongDynasty．In this dynasty，classics system of Han and Tang Dynasties had into questionand challenge．The second section，general situation of the study on"Spring andAutumn Annals"in the Song Dynasty．In order to strengthen the rule，the SongDynasty rulers advocated Confucian classics，then the study on "Spring and AutumnAnnals"also had a certain degree of development．The third section focuses on thefamily influence．Su Zhe’s work under the influence of Su Xun and Su Shi．Su Zhe had mentioned that he learned from his father，and his brother also was his teacherand friend．The third chapter is the main contents about"Concentrated Explain on Springand Autumn Annals"．This chapter include six parts．The first part，Su Zhethought "Spring and Autumn Annals"was Confucius’s words，it was a classic workin order to educate people．The second part，Su Zhe thought the function of "Springand Autumn Annals"was advocating the rules．The third part mainly discuss SuZhe’s research methods about "Spring and Autumn Annals"．Su Zhe said that hiswork mainly adopted "Zuo Zhuan"，then"Gong Yang Zhuan" and"Gu LiangZhuan"．But he didn’t use too much historical events，instead，he replaced with therighteous cases．The fourth part is Su Zhe’s interpretation about the meaning of "Spring and Autumn Annals"．The fifth part is Su Zhe’s criticism about "ThreeZhuan"．The sixth part is Su Zhe’s new insights about the meaning of "Spring andAutumnAnnals"．The fourth chapter mainly discusses the impact of Su Zhe’s work on the laterages and later generation’s evaluation about it．This chapter includes two aspects．Oneaspect is Su Zhe’s later generations and students on the inheritance of his work．SuZhe had taught his children in home when he was old．Many scholars used content ofSu Zhe’s "Concentrated Explain on Spring and Autumn Annals"since the SongDynasty． Another aspect is evaluation of some scholars about " ConcentratedExplain on Spring and Autumn Annals"．Ye Mengde and Chen Hongxu criticizedthis book，but Zhang Xuan supported Su Zhe’s work．The Catalogue Summary ofImperial Collection of Four also gave affirmation about the book to a certain extent．...
