“Oil painting taste” is a both strange and familiar word in Chinese oil paintings. Although it will be blurted out when people are appreciating oil paintings, there are still very few written materials about “oil painting taste”. Actually, “oil painting taste” is the extension of the Chinese traditional artistic “taste” from its origins. In the process of Chinese development and evolution,“taste” always stresses to surmount the appearances, reach souls and dig out the inner world of the works which are all play a foundational role in the emergence of the “oil painting taste”.Realism is the maturest school in the centurial development of the Chinese oil paintings. The plain images, deep emotions and pursuit for the truth, good and beauty are in step with the Chinese traditional “taste” which represent the oil painting taste of Chinese realism.This thesis includes four parts. The first part, through the collation about the development of“taste”, illuminates the development process of “taste” and expounds the relationship between“oil painting taste” and Chinese traditional “taste” in order to get the perception that the emergence of the oil painting taste is inevitable and oil painting taste originates from taste. The second part explains the connotation of the “oil painting taste”. Oil painting taste is unique and the production of intuitive thinking. According to the explanation, the value and significance of the oil painting taste can be represented. The third part is the excavation of the Chinese realistic oil painting taste. The explanation of the production and development of realism in China and the spiritual pursuit of realistic oil paintings can help to get a better understanding about the connotation of Chinese realistic oil painting taste and the difference between the Chinese and Western realism.The main research methods in this thesis are work references, document references,comparative approaches, work analysis historical approaches and so on.
