Abbey Kunanbayev is a great poet, writer, cultural renovator and founder of modern Kazakh literature. Research on Abbeyism has gotten constant attention from Kazakhstan and Russian academic circle a century ago, while that in China was relatively late and began in 1950 s. In view of lack of domestic study on Abbey’s works, this thesis will run through the research results and academic points of view according to some historical records and academic writings of Kazakhstan and Russian scholars, and explore the influence of Russian literature on Abbey’s works. This thesis will translate some of the classical poems that Abbey translated or rewrote from Kazakh into Chinese in order to study how Russian literature influenced Abbey. Through a comparative study, this thesis analyzes similarities and differences between the poetry of Abbey and Russian writers and demonstrate the rationality of his recreation and specificity of his translations via Reception Aesthetic Theory.This thesis consists of the following chapters:The introduction describes the background of research, research situation at home and abroad, innovation point, research methodology and significance.The first chapter reveals the diligent creation path of Abbey, how he acquainted with Russian literature, abandoned politics for it and became mature in his writing.The second chapter, in terms of form of his works, selects some classic works of Abbey which translated from some great masters in Russian literature and analyzes the intention and deep reasons of his "recreation" phenomenon of Russian poetry.The third chapter, in terms of the contents of Abbey’s works, summarizes the energetic force that Russian literature has injected into Abbey’s works, and further confirms Abbey’s attention and reflection towards Russian literary works and life.In conclusion, influenced by Russian literature, many of Abbey’s works present inheritance of the tradition of Russian literature, the innovative study on and his unique understanding of Russian literature.
