| In the course of simultaneous interpreting, some certain principles are needed to relieve memory load and save time, among which segmentation and cohesive devices are considered as the most significant ones. This thesis analyzed the inauguration speech of Barack Obama in 2009 and 2013 by an interpreter named Nan Miao from the Chinese Channel of the Phoenix Cable TV station. At the same time, it emphasized the application of segmentation and cohesive devices using in these two cases, in which we found five types of sentences where segmentation is frequently used(non-finite verb, preposition, attributive clause, adverbial clause and passive sentence). The author also found three strategies of cohesive devices: repetition, amplification and conversion. The analysis has further deepened our understanding of these two principles and the author hopes it can be helpful to interpreting learners. |
