The Britain firstly completed industrial revolution and the initial realization of urbanization.in the mid-19 th century. As Britain’s political, economic and cultural center—London, there have been many significant and profound changes in its urban population. On one hand, it can be owed to its own attraction; on the other hand, enclosure movement and loose relations of personal dependence, and advanced agricultural technology and equipment, continuously improved commercialization of agriculture release lots of labors from agriculture and rural country, which results in a large number of rural population’s moving to London.Though London provides some job opportunities and the corresponding salary for immigrants, they pay a "heavy price" for these. They use their hands and sweat to create a brilliant London, but the corresponding return to them seems to be only bad environment, overcrowding residence, moldy food and tattered clothes. Under the threat of poverty, they may embark on the road to crime, which affects the stability and healthy development of London.Body part is divided into three chapters. The first chapter mainly describes population growth of London during the year 1800—1850 from the point of population migration, and then analyzes the dynamic mechanism of population growth during this period. Second chapter is the analysis of the characteristics and living conditions of population migration in last half of the 19 th century. It will be addressed separately from occupational composition, moving distance and overseas immigrant.The analysis of the living conditions of the population migrant are mainly through discussing the aspect of working environment, food and clothing situation and living conditions. The third chapter mainly describes the social impact of population immigration, as well as according measures taken by the government.This paper will combine the social and historical background of this period, and make an interdisciplinary research methods,such as, demography, economics and other disciplines, to explore the reasons for the population’s immigration, their distribution and living conditions and make in-depth study of the impact of population intake in this period and gradually add a new point based on a combination of their predecessors’ research. Preliminary study of London’s urban population’s intake, combined with the background of economic and social transformation, will help us to have a deeper understanding of the relationship between population and urban development.
