| Movies carry cultural values, especially cross-cultural movies with blending of values from more than one culture.Cross-cultural movies play an increasingly important role in exporting culture by showing life stylesã€social valvesã€belief systems and moral standards of the source country. This thesis explores how Chinese cultural values are utilized in the second-encoding process in American movies for propagandizing its own cultural values.Kluckhohn`s cultural dimension theory is employed as the conceptual framework for the analysis of finding commonalities for the second-decoding.Through second-decoding,cross-cultural movies are empowered to carry cultural elements of both the source and target cultures, making them more easily accepted by people from both cultures and irreplaceable in culture and cross-cultural communications.Findings from this study will provide insights for Chinese cross-cultural movies in exporting Chinese culture and for cross-cultural communication. |
