Fusion of horizon is one of the important theories of Gadamer’s philosophical hermeneutics, featuring a complex inherent relationship with translation. In the field of linguistic inquiry, different scholars have approached the perspectives of subjectivity, horizon gap and openness of the text to investigate the application of fusion of horizon in translation. The thesis adopts fusion of horizon theory as the theoretical framework, analyzes twenty Song lyrics as data with the qualitative method, and examines how the historical and cultural factors affect the fore-understanding, which also brings the impact upon the horizon and an effect on the quality of the Song lyrics’s english translation versions. In the thesis, we have discussed the relationship between hermeneutics and translation, with the theoretical foundation of the fusion of horizon and the framework of the fusion of horizon theory presented, meanwhile, we have applied the framework of fusion of horizon theory to analyze the problems in the process of Song Lyrics translation. Due to the unique historical and cultural factors of Song lyrics, the translator in the process of translation is not only supposed to fully consider the history, cultural background and life experience of the source text, but also to consider the fusion of the target language readers, examine their historical and cultural background, understand the hidden meanings in the translation. A perfect translation is the result of the fusion of horizon of the translator with the horizon of the source text and the horizon of the target language readers.
