Borderland Yunnan is home of ethnic literature. As an individual and influentialpart of frontier literature, it has greatly developed since the foundation of the People’sRepublic of China (PRC), especially since the starting of reform and open. The studyof feminine discourse implicature in Yunnan ethnic literature is ignored for long but ithas been a proposition of significant academic value since the foundation of PRC.Yunnan ethnic literature has developed a wider sphere of topics and genres andcontribute a kaleidoscopic prosperity to novel creation since the foundation of PRC.They sketch picturesque worlds with touching words, speak out individual discourseof new ethnic females, and express their own, together with heroines’ understandingof education, technology, economy, equality, freedom and values. On the one hand,feminine writers focus on the women from Yungui Plateau from the perspective of“self-ego”and bring prominence to frontier women’s vitality and vigor by describingtheir life journey, inquiring about their living, and presenting their life experience; onthe other hand, male writers engage in describing ethnic women’s individualdiscourse in modernized context and lay importance on the tidal influence onfeminine individual, including on her educational and technological concepts,commercial thoughts, immortality and outlooks. The influence above also revealswriters’ reflections on and doubts of modernization. These fresh and unique ethnicfemales discourse of modern awareness consists Yunnan ethnic literature’scontemporary feminine discourse implicature and meanwhile bring light to the hall ofChina’s ethnic literature discourse implicature. With no doubts, ethnic feminine’sdiscourse of modern awareness contributes to Yunnan ethnic literature’s developmentand promotes its communication with contemporary literature in such a new field.This thesis adopts the theory of discourse (a new schema of academic study) andexplains events of frontier ethnic females’communicating and uttering with discourseunder the specific circumstance of society, culture and history. The whole thesis isdivided into four chapters. First of all, this thesis categorizes feminine discourse intofour types, e.g. feminine educational and technological discourse, feminine business discourse, feminine die-for-love discourse,and generation discourse between motherand daughter. Then, in order to focus on “feminine discourse”, and investigates itsperformance in every dimension, each chapter, based on the author’s intensive anddetailed reading on much typical feminine discourse, analyzes respectively the fourtypes above. Feminie educational and technological discourse centers on calling forthe new females to gain the access to education, study technology and culture, mastertechnological farming skills, and improve their own qualification and ability to work.It expects more comrades to join in scientific farming and improving productivity soas to realize comprehensive development of individual, family and nation; femininebusiness discourse hasn’t come into being until reform and open took place inYunnan. It presents the influence of traditional thoughts and concepts, under whichethnic females appeal to, encourage and lead villagers to become creative with theirunprecedented economic consciousness, values and action; feminine die-for-lovediscourse, on the basis of its reflections on ethnic females’existence, is aboutacknowledgement and construction of cultural identification; general discoursebetween mother and daughter summarizes the two generations’ overviews ofmarriage, happiness and life according to the differences between their attitudestowards tradition, love, and conscious pursuit of commercial economy. It reflectsvividly the transformation of Yunnan ethnic females’ social status and values.Consequently, the thesis leads to the conclusion that Yunnan ethnic females’modernawareness wake up in the aspects of education and technology, business, values, etc.The thesis elaborates on feminine discourse implicature in Yunnan ethnicliterature with the purpose that the reader will know more comprehensively aboutfrontier ethnic females’“dream”, e.g. multi-dimensional modern awareness’awakening, and that more people will pay attention to and have discussion aboutYunnan ethnic literature, thus broaden the sphere of study of it gradually.
