This study which307subjects from No.2Secondary Vocational School (SVS)Of Kunming were involved to answer the questionnaire, adopts the questionnairesurvey by using The Symptom Checklist-90(SCL-90) and the Way of CopingQuestionnaire. Those two questionnaires were used to investigate the effects ofdifferent coping strategies on SVC students’ mental health levels. The mainconclusions of this study are as follows:1. The coping strategies frequency rank of SVS students under the ordinarycircumstance are problem-solving, helping-seeking, fantasy, withdrawing,rationalizing and self-blaming.2. There is a significant grade difference in coping strategies whichcharacterized by problem-solving. Senior one use problem-solving more often thansenior two. There is not a significant gender difference in coping strategies, whilemales use problem-solving, self-blaming, withdrawing and rationalizing more oftenthan females.3. Compared to class committee members, SVS students who are not in theclass committee tend to adopt coping strategies of fantasizing and rationalizing.Exept self-blaming, differences can be seen on all other factors.4. The sores of the SVS students’ SCL-90in all factors are extremelysignificantly higher than the counterpart in the norms of Chinese ordinary people.The top three scores are obsessive symptoms, hostile and interpersonal relationshipsensitiveness. The whole level of mental health of males is higher than that offemales in the groups of SVS.5. Each sore of mental health negatively correlated with problem-solving andhelping-seeking, but positively correlate with fantasy, withdrawing, rationalizingand self-blaming. The more coping styles of problem-solving and help-seekingsupport are adopted, the higher their mental health levels are. On the contrary, the more withdrawing, self-blame and rationalizing are adopted, the lower their mentalhealth levels are. Of all the coping tragedies, except withdrawing, have predicationsfor psychological symptoms and the whole level of mental health, and self-blaminghave the greatest power of prediction.
