The writer Feng Tang,who was born after the1970s is now at a so-called intermediate zone reached by the literary critics,who was alsorarely known by the school of academic critics because of his uniquestyle,his deviation from the mainstream value and his challenging thepublic aesthetics and cultural taboos.His most popular novels are thetrilogy titled All things grow,I want a girl when I am18,Beijing, Beijingand Bu Er which is a name of the hero with the meaning of consistencyand concentration,but the latter one can’t be published in mainland Chinabecause of the erotic description,etc.The author thinks that Feng Tang’snovels have the next four prominent features:1,the rebellion against themainstream value;2,the theme of sexuality is highlighted;3,his uniqueacceptance of the traditional Chinese culture;4,the inheritance of theartistic style of the traditional Chinese poetry.From the above fouraspects,this article tries to use Feng Tang’s major novels to explore hisunique ideological content and artistic features by adopting the method ofclose reading.Firstly, the article is an analysis of its rebellion against themainstream value by mocking the contemporary education and revoltingthe orthodoxy; secondly, it is an analysis of the novel’s distinctive themeof sexuality from the love mode of the trilogy,the features of the eroticdescription and the essence of buddhism and human nature explicited inBu Er with the theme of sexuality; thirdly, it is an analysis of the uniqueacceptance of Feng Tang’s novel creation towards ancient ChineseBuddhist culture by understanding the essence of Buddhism from hisnovels; last but not the least, it is an analysis of his novels’ inheritance ofthe art of the traditional Chinese poetry by the influence on his novelsfrom the form,language and the artistic conception of ancient Chinesepoetry.With wildness and talents, Feng Tang made a breakthrough at thegeneral pattern of Chinese contemporary novel creation and exploredanother possibility of novel form and language performance of Chinese,which has special meaning towards the development of contemporaryliterature and is also a beneficial attempt of literary review.
