Focusing on the close relationship between classical Chinese novels of Tang dynasty and Tang poetry, this article, by means of the culture and spirit of Tang poetry, tries to elucidate Tang novels, excavate their aesthetic meaning and cultural value, search for the causes of their prosperity and probe into their developing laws and profound influences to the novels of later ages.Classical Chinese novels of Tang dynasty were radiated and permeated by poetry in many aspects, for they developed and matured in the extremely prosperous cultural atmosphere of Tang poetry. The poets of that age who created novels are a typical example. They observed novels with poetic spirit and passion, concentrated on novels' specific property of entertainment and aestheticism under the influence of poetic theory, and put forward new concept, such as "bantering theory in fiction" and "peculiarity theory in fiction", to improve novels' grade and status. They also leaned from all kinds of artistic experiences, such as poetic imagination and fabrication, diction, lyrics, so as to cultivate novels' aesthetic characteristics of peculiar ideas, flowery words, tactful narration and passionate feeling. As a result, Tang novels, breaking away from the attachment to historic biography, formed their own soul and quality of newly bom style. When writing novels, they often directly introduced rhyming verse of poetry, and merged the character depiction, plot design, atmosphere ornament and rich emotions of poetry and added the poetic interest and meaning. Therefore, the novels' narrative function, artistic features and aesthetic value radiated the beauty of rich poetic quantity and flavor, marking the beginning of Chinese ancient novels in a national form.In step with poetry, classical Chinese novels were created and accepted by poets' community. The common behavior patterns, mental state and literary customs encouraged the communication between Tang novels' creators and acceptors, which offered them a good atmosphere and prompted novels' development. Meanwhile poetry become an important media of Tang novels, helping the Tang novels get close to common people, poetry extended its own influences.Tang novels had many records and reflection about Tang people's life and their poetry. The novels not only re-demonstrated the colorful poetic activities of Tang literary people and poets' vivid official career, lover affairs and cultural life, but also continuously revealed the materialistic-spiritual value, realistic-historical function and social-cultural significance of Tang poetry.In a word, Tang novels share the same spiritual principles with Tang poetry; they all reflect Tang people's high spirit, confidence and optimism of the age, express their true, rich feelings and their pursuit for truth, kindness and beauty. Obviously, as Tang poetry, Tang novels turn up to another outstanding representative of Tang literature; they are the carrier of Tang atmosphere and look of the times.
