A Study On The Creative Thought Of "The Encyclopedia" Of Itaroo Calvino

This thesis is based on Italo Calvino’s critical work, considering his later novels Mr. Palomar, Invisible Cities, If on a winter’s night a traveler, The Castle of Crossed Destinies and so on to explore and analyze his encyclopedic creative thoughts and his practice. It’s a way to reveal the core connotation, main feature and the profound significance of the "future literature" of the creative thoughts.This thesis is mainly divided into four chapters.Chapter one is about the core connotation of Italo Calvino’s encyclopedic creative thoughts. This chapter is divided into three sections:the first section introduces how Calvino puts forward his encyclopedic creative thoughts; the second section elaborates the core connotation of Calvino’s encyclopedic creative thoughts; the third section explores the origin of Calvino’s encyclopedic creative thoughts.Chapter two is about the main features of Italo Calvino’s encyclopedic creative thoughts. Based on systemizing and elaborating the core connotation of Calvino’s encyclopedic creative thoughts, this chapter is made further investigation and summarized the main features of this thoughts as:interdisciplinarity of literary creative; openness and limitless of works; non-authority of the author.Chapter three is about the text practice of Italo Calvino’s encyclopedic creative thoughts. In order to realize the literary ideal of the "encyclopedic novel", Calvino explored and tried constantly, and finally found the "crystal structure" as the perfect work model. Calvino’s novels have practiced this ideal crystal structure well, at the maximum achieving his pursuit of encyclopedic creative thoughts. This chapter introduces the crystal structure of Calvino firstly, elaborating its present and features, then analyzing and discussing the text practice of Italo Calvino’s encyclopedic creative thoughts from three aspects of writers, works, readers which is based on his later novels Mr. Palomar, Invisible Cities, If on a winter’s night a traveler, The Castle of Crossed Destinies.Chapter four is about the far-reaching significances of Italo Calvino’s encyclopedic creative thoughts. In general, the far-reaching significances of this thoughts are mainly reflected in three aspects, including the consciousness of the universal and exploration, the memo of future literature and the deep concern for ecology of equality of all beings.
