Carnival And Dialogue: On The Self - Depreciation Of China In The New Century

Self-mockery,literally means poking fun at ourselves,are commonly used in our daily life to decrease embarrassment or to tune up the atmosphere.The underlying meaning of self-mockery is to explicate one person who puts away the identity,fame and status,this is widely applied in studio productions to portray people and their lives from the grass roots.In china,the history of self-mockery can be traced back to the very ancient.For instance,poets used self-mockery to express their aspiration to politics,society and literature.In latter-days,caricaturists used pencils as their weapon to point out social problems,so did the film and drama productors.Due to the popularized of internet,the platform of self-mockery has shifted to the internet and gained great approvals of the netizens.The thesis will be divided into three parts:traditional literature,film and video productions and internets based on different occurrences and platforms of self-mockery.The author will mainly focused on the self-mockery in the new age,the occurrence of this phenomenon has enriched the contents,approaches and characteristics of self-mockery,and leads to a mass carnival.The phenomenon of "Carnival" is first brought forward by the Former Soviet Union litterateur Bakhtin and widely used in movie reviews now.The exterior characteristics of carnival are civilized,ritualistic,distance-less and jocosity, while the internal characteristics are sensibility,dualistic and relativity.The extension of carnival has far broke through the scope of movie review and create its new layout--carnival of self-mockery,which is based on the communication and collides of popular culture.Self-mockery in the new century has renewed and extended the subjects,objects and layouts of self-mockery which endow self-mockery new headway.The thesis will be based on Bakhtin’s theory to research on self-mockery phenomenon and finally come up with a constructive conclusion.The author will research on carnivals in Chinese culture in the coming study.
