Measure Words can best reflect the characteristics of modern Chinese. There are numerous quantifiers with different kinds. Those quantifiers can manifest the characteristics of thinking of Chinese people, and can manifest different ways they treat the world, which is most evident in teaching Chinese as a foreign language. In recent years, more researches on quantifiers have been carried out and have gained remarkable achievements. Some researches focuses on the integrity and systematicness of quantifiers, while others emphasizes the individuality and differences of the sub-types within the quantifiers. The thesis is going to study the individuality and differences of quantifiers on the basis of the first kind of studies. There are lots of quantifiers that can be used to describe the shape of object. In its study, the thesis selects five quantifiers which express the characteristics of "hang" and name them "line" quantifiers. On the basis of the previous studies, it carries out a grammatical and semantic study of the "line" quantifiers with large corpus drawing on the theories of structural linguistics and semantics, etc. This article consists of three chapters. Chapter One is the introduction, expounding the theoretical and practical significance of the study, analyzing the research status of quantifiers home and abroad and introducing the research methods and theoretical basis. Chapter Two analyzes the semantic features of the five "line" quantifiers. Diachronically, it overviews the semantic evolution of the five "line" quantifiers and synchronically, it compares and contrasts the semantic features of the five words, expounding their common and different semantic features. Chapter Three adopted the theory of structural linguistics and analyzes the grammatical attribute of the "line" quantifiers with large data. It studies the numerals, nouns and adjectives that collocate with quantifiers, as well as the three duplicate forms.Under the circumstances that studies of Chinese become increasingly extensive and the international status of Chinese improves continuously, the thesis attempts to carry out a systematic study of "line" quantifiers and to explore their principles of usage. The author hopes that the study can enrich Chinese linguistic theory and guide Chinese teaching.
