As an important social movement and organization, vegetarianism thought and practice has outstanding historical role in the19th-century British society. Discussion of this theme can helps us to deephen the understanding of England society and ideological situation in the nineteenth certury. Through this study,we also can learn lessons to guide the development of China-related social organizations and civil liberties. Meanwhile, vegetarianism is not only exists in the society history of England,but exist in contemporary Western society. Study of its thought and practice from a historical perspective,can helps us understand the social and ideological dynamics in other countries.For all reasons,the article will be discussed the vegetarianism thought and practice in19th-century England from the perspective of social movements,in order to provide some experiences for our current social transformation.In addition to the introduction, the article is divided into three parts:The first chapter introduces vegetarianism thought and practice of the early19th-century.The author believes that vegetarianism is a special product of triple background of19th-century England. Since this period the England ideological, organizational, social conditions permit, vegetarianism thought and practice began the stage of history. The development of early history of vegetarianism has a typical development characteristics of double-vane,religious and secular association play a key role in this period.In addition,the development of other social movements and organizations also enrich the vegetarianism thought and practice. Although the early development of vegetarianism has significant limitations, but it is lay the foundation for the formation of a movement in future.The second chapter focused on vegetarianism as a movement. The entire second half of the19th-century, vegetarianism and its practices has increasingly become a national vegetarian movement,its development is a complete cycle. At the beginning of vegetarian movement, vegetarianism formed a nationwide organization and activity center, actively expand various kinds of activities.However, this activity also reveal many aspects of its development restrictions, they are developing the factors that hinder the development of the movement in the second stage. Increased harsh external factors, coupled with powerful internal negative factors, leading to the movement into a brief decline stage. To the third phase, as a result of the relevant personal reform, the movement developed the new principle of development.Driven by this principle, the vegetarian movement in England established the three organizations and activities center, not only expand these principles, but also formate a new direction, all this makes the vegetarianism thought and practice to become a full-fledged vegetarian system.On the basis of the second chapter,the third chapter focuses on the features and its impact of the19th-century vegetarian movement. The movement mainly has the following characteristicsits activity range is mainly focused on cities, most of the participants are male, and harness the power of other social reforms to develop their own. By contrast the social situation before and after the campaign began, analysis the impact of movement on England society of the19th-century,the author think the influence of vegetarian movement is mainly focused on changing people’s attitudes towards vegetarianism, pushed to improve diet structure,and increased the type of business organization.
