Individual in social environment has a special capacity on emotional stimuli, especially on the information of emotional faces. That kind of capacity made individual integrates into society easily. Therefore, in the past few years, researchers kept their bone of contention on emotional information and attention. Attention-grabbing, as a phenomenon exploring distraction stimuli’s rivalry on resources of individual attention, its mechanism still has disputes-whether it is bottom-up or top-down. Information of emotional faces including emotional information as well as faces information, this is very particular in social environment stimuli. In the past, researchers focused on information of emotional faces within the boundary of attention. But little researches on its variation when it is out of the boundary. This paper tried to explore when emotional faces worked as distraction stimuli, its capacity and mechanism on grabbing individual attention under the condition that individual attention resources are limited. It also discussed if the semantic process on emotional words has inhibitory effect on attention-grabbing capacity of emotional faces. This paper including two experiments. The1st one using digit-parity paradigm to find differences among positive emotional faces, negative emotional faces and neutral emotional faces on their capacity of grabbing attention resources. Under the condition that attention resources are limited. The results revealed that, when the information of emotional faces worked as distraction stimuli within or out of the boundary of attention, main effect of its position impact a lot. The reaction time of positive emotional faces, negative emotional faces and neutral emotional faces makes a big difference. It also made a big difference among the reaction time of the four word’s types. Interaction between word’s type and face’s type is obviously. The2nd experiment using priming paradigm to discuss if semantic process on emotional words has inhibitory effect on attention-grabbing capacity of emotional faces. And this inhibitory reflects which aspects of cognitive process. Our findings indicate that, participant’s reaction under positive priming is faster than negative priming. Interaction between priming type and word’s type is notable. Effect size of positive priming is much negative than negative priming. Participant’s effect size of priming is much negative when positive words worked as target word than negative words. This paper concludes that, when worked as distraction stimuli, negative emotional faces can grab more attention than positive emotional faces. And this is a controlling ability which can lead to inhibition of return on processing of target information. While positive emotional faces shows processing facilitation.
