Based on the evolutionary psychology, human cognitive neural mechanism is the result of the dual function by natural and sexual selection. So individuals are highly sensitive to survival and reproductive informations. To maximize survival, individuals make fitness tradeoffs related to survival and reproduction based on environmental cues. The most basic challenge that every individual, including human beings, have to face is how to allocate time, resources and energy efficiently in the various life activities related to survival and reproduction.Evolutionary psychologists believe that the perception of survival and reproductive informations can cause cognitive changes, such as rapid response, enhanced memory, increased alertness, etc.,and the most significant change is in the attentive function. However, the brain mechanism that how these survive and reproductive informations trigger the response is still unclear. And the neurobasic research of preattention and attention processing of evolutionary information is relatively weak.Limited by traditional evolutionary psychology research techniques, previous studies on attentional processing of such stimulus information are based on the response time results, and the results are often controversial. This study combines evolutionary psychology and cognitive neuroscience, uses cognitive neuroscience technology, especially the event-related potentials(ERPs)technology with high temporal resolution, which rejuvenates the ancient study of evolutionary psychology. This study adopts the threat and face attraction as stimuli as materials and ERPs technology, systematically investigates the influence of evolutionary information on different processing stages of attention,so as to obtain the characteristics and changes of each processing stage, and find the objective indicators to evaluate and monitor survive and reproductive stimuli. This research provides evidence for the study of the attention mechanism in evolutionary theory. In this study, there are 3 studies and 6 experiments used to systematically explore the temporal dynamic changes of attentive processing in brain of threat and faical attractiveness. The 3 studies: Study 1 explored the effects of threatening stimuli and attractive faces on attention processing;Study 2 investigated whether attention resources were restricted by threatening stimuli and attractive faces;Study 3 explored the effect of self-correlation between threatening stimuli and attractive faces on attention processing. The main findings of this dissertation were as follows:1 It has the evolutionary dominance effect in attentional processing of threat stimuli under non-attentional conditions and in the case of insufficient attention resources. It has the threat dominance effec under the condition of high self-survive value priming and has the evolutionary dominance effect under the condition of low self-survive value priming.2 Both males and females were able to automatically perceive attractive oppositesex faces under non-attentional conditon, but the degree of automation was adjusted by the observer’s own physiological factors. The attentive processing of face attractiveness has reproductive advantage effect-fertility motivated subjects, such as males and ovulating females, attractive opposite-sex faces were given more attention resources.Under the priming of low self-attractive value, different observer groups had different psychological mechanisms in the face of attractive faces.Taken together, according to evolutionary psychology, this research demonstrated the effect of preattention and attentional processing ability on survival and reproduction information by ERPs technique.Through a series of studies, this research has obtained some valuable results, which have important theoretical and practical significance for the study of evolutionary priority of threat information and the study of face attractiveness preference in the process of mate selection, and provide a basis for cognitive neuroscience. |
