Family novel has been a very important mainstream since from Chinese modern literature, the thesis aims to inspect new period family novels under the background of the long20th literature century. Traditional family novels reflect the times by one or more big families. The time of the story is the contemporary social reality of the writer. The theme of the times and the mutual metaphor is the expression of the Grand National Fable. However, because of the change of cultural society, change of writers’view of history and the new literature concept, writers are able to write their different understandings of the history. New period family novels go further on the road of the mutual metaphor between family and nation. Large part of them continue the reflection of national history and national destiny, even the special context of the binary opposition between the two narrative patterns. But the inheritance is a form view of whole history. Overall, the new period family novels reflect history on behalf of the folk history. Reflection and questioning attitude hidden between the lines, there has a strong feeling of personal emotion. Pioneer writers are mainly focus on the individual survival state inside of the family, reflect a kind of broken quality. Female writers’narrative broke the traditional male centered position, with distinctive female consciousness to pursue the maternal family history.In this paper, new period family novels are divided into three different types. Part one:"Red Sorghum","Ancient Ship","The twentieth act" as the representative of the National History and Cultural Fable. I want to introduce as historical narration of national metaphor, cultural quality and inheritance and development from the traditional family novels. Part two:"The family of opium poppy","Hometown World of Chrysanthemum","Shouting in the drizzle" as the representative of the Gathering Crowed Fable. I try to introduce as the desire narration of individual survive, broken quality and these family novels from the family to individuality, from the family story to language games. Part three:"Documentary and Fiction","Our Family Women","Yu She" as the representative of Maternal Fable. I manage to introduce as the female narration for searching maternal family, distinctive female standpoint and the illusory side of the Maternal Fable. Part four:combine the social and cultural realities in new period to study the reason of three different types of Fable. Conclusion part summarize the status of the new period family novels in the literature history, what are they provide for contemporary literature history and where are worth us reconsidering.
