A Study Of The Historical Materials Of Sui, Tang And Five Dynasties

Rong Zhai Sui Bi, written by Hong Mai, is one of the famous literary sketches inthe Southern Song Dynasty. It has extensive contents, precise and detailed textualresearch, as well as abundant quotes from previous works. It has received greatattention from scholars in all ages. However, there is little research on the historicalrecords of Sui Tang and the Five Dynasties that are cited. Therefore, this article usesciting, correcting, and statistical analysis to study the181historical records of thepart of Sui Tang and the Five Dynasties cited by Rong Zhai Sui Bi. And this article isdivided into six chapters. The author does research on these historical records of SuiTang and the Five Dynasties cited in Rong Zhai Sui Bi from the following five aspects:source of these historical records, contents of systems, social culture, Political figure，and literary figures and so on. This article reveals the values and deficiencies of thehistorical records of Sui Tang and the Five Dynasties. The author thinks that therecorded historical value in Rong Zhai Sui Bi mainly reflected in two ways, soleremaining value and complement historical value. Although Rong Zhai Sui Bi existserrors, including insufficient historical record and inadequate textual research, but inspite of the flaws, it is still the important document of the research on Sui Tang andthe Five Dynasties history, as a reference for the scholars.
